Hm, I wonder if a 7800GFX would offer much advantage over a 7300LE which I think also has 256MB. Probably not...

On the desktop? Probably not. In 3D games? Yes, tons. The 7800 was actually quite respectable - the 7300LE is the cut-down-to-nothing version for HTPCs with almost no remaining 3D rendering ability.

Ah well, I don't do games so I guess I will leave it!

(My current curiosity is why starting up Thunderbird bangs both cores of an Athlon64-2000 to 100% utilisation for around 5 seconds. It's an email client FFS, not a structural analysis package! I doubt a faster graphics card will help it though.)

Fair enough. This thing will suck a lot more juice, so you'll save overall. It works with Compiz/Win7 Aero - but the 7300LE probably has enough oomph for that already.

The 7300LE lets me use 3D Unity, it's not as smooth as I'd like though, eg. windows don't always slide smoothly.

OIC. Well, the newer one would do better. I think the only thing it struggled with was Win7 dimming the whole screen under certain circumstances - rather than fading to grey, it just blinked off & back on. It predates 3D GUIs, really, and was aimed solely at games.

TBH I doubt it's going to sell, but hey, that's eBay; sometimes I'm amazed what sells, sometimes at what doesn't.

If it doesn't sell, I'll trade a beer for it and give it a go. (-:
